Post subject:  Workshop and Lecture on Foldscope by Stanford Univ. faculty

During the visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to USA for the India-US Start-up Konnect event at Silicon Valley on 27th September 2015, in his presence a statement of intent was signed between Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India and Prakash Lab, Stanford University, USA.

The Prakash Lab has invented a Foldscope (FS) which is a new approach for mass manufacturing of optical microscope that is printed-and-folded from a single flat sheet of paper, akin to origami and can enable accessibility to microscopy in field and resource-constrained settings at a global scale. The Foldscope will be used as educational and training tool to understand Physics, Chemistry, Biology and instrumentation. It is provided as Kit where the student starts by first building the actual unity from the Kit and explores curiosity driven question surrounding the microscopic world in different scientific fields.

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Prakash Lab has consented to organise a Camp Workshop on FS at College of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara, Guwahati on 17th December 2015 (afternoon) followed by a Public Lecture by Dr. Manu Prakash from Stanford University, USA on 18th December, 2015 (morning). The final timings for the events will be notified shortly.

The FS Camp Workshop is targeted to teachers and students of Biotech Hubs, Star Colleges and BLiSS Schools of Assam and its surrounding states. While 75 participants will be accommodated in the FS workshop, the Public Lecture on 18th December will be open for around 300 participants.
