About the Salient Achievements of the Department:   (iii) The result of the Department of Physics has been consistently good having position holders in the Final University Examinations of last five years (2007-2011). (iv) National Seminar and Workshop have been organized by the Department in 2009 and 2010. (v) A DBT-funded project on ‘Detection of Radon Gas in the campus of Lady Keane College, Shillong’ has been undertaken by the Department. (vi) The departmental laboratory has been upgraded substantially with the help of DBT fund. (vii) The departmental library has also been upgraded reasonably with the aid of DBT fund. It has also become possible with the help of the fund, to purchase some specialized books of Physics, beyond the requirement of the curriculum, which are inevitable in providing wider exposure of the subject. (viii) Consistent effort undertaken by the Faculty Members have enabled students to pursue higher studies in pure Physics after graduation and some of them are pursuing research work in prestigious institutes like IITs and IISc, Bangalore.

Other Activities (e.g., National/International Conferences, Symposia, Seminar, etc. organized during the last 10 years):   Seminars Organized: (i) On Celebration of National Science Day – held on 28th March, 2005 at Lady Keane College Auditorium. (ii) On Celebration of the International Year of Physics – held on 15th December, 2005 at Lady Keane College Auditorium. (iii) The Relevance of Physics in Modern Day Science and Technology – held on 25th November, 2006 at Lady Keane College Auditorium. (iv) One-day National Seminar on “Recent Developments in Electronic Applications” organized by the Department of Physics, Lady Keane College on the 7th December, 2009 under the aegis of DBT Star College Scheme 2009. Workshops Organized: (i) A three-day Workshop on ‘Electric Circuit Designing, Fabrication and Testing” – organized by the Department of Physics, Lady Keane College from the 8th to 10th December, 2009 under the aegis of DBT Star College Scheme 2009. (ii) A two-day Workshop on Physics in Welding Technology organized by the Department of Physics, Lady Keane College, Shillong, Indian Welding Society, New Delhi & IGNOU Institute for Vocational Education and Training (IIVET), Shillong – held on the 13th & 14th December, 2010. Summer School Organized: (i) The Department of Physics has organized a one-week Summer School in Welding Technology from 28th May – 2nd June, 2012.
