About the Salient Achievements of the Department:
Considering the need of the people, the department was established in the year 2008-09 with 06 nos. of students. The present intake capacity of each semester is 16. The Department offers two optional papers in the 4th semester viz. Food Biotechnology & Bio-processing and Bio-resource & Environmental Biotechnology. The Department has started to offer Ph. D. program from the academic session of 2013-14. The Department is well-equipped with instrumentation facility and basic laboratory amenities for catering to the need of the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Department of Biotechnology, Government of India has selected this department to establish an Institute level Biotech Hub for infrastructure and manpower development. The department has a self sustaining Mushroom unit which performs Research and Development along with production and selling of the products as food. The department is deeply associated with teaching, research and extension running parallel as an integral part of regular curricula both for the upliftment of R & D programme in the region and also for fringe village improvisation. As a mandate, the department takes active care in regular career counselling for students through advance career oriented training which enable them to secure placement to establish themselves. The department has a mission to impart skill based scientific and technical knowledge to students,with a vision to produce trained biotechnologists. Focused research and development activities in the department have empowered the Biotechnological knowledge with vast applications in human health, agriculture, environment and industrial sectors.
